Effects of Exogenous Calcium Ions on Physiological Characteristics of Spinach under NaCl Stress

Abstract

Different concentrations of calcium chloride were used to induce spinach(Spinacia oleracea L.) with root pouring and leaf spraying method before NaCl stress. After 5 days of induction with calcium chloride, 150 mmol/L NaCl stress was used to spinach seedlings. Morphological, physiological and biochemical indexes of spinach seedlings were detected. The results showed that exogenous calcium ions obviously promote the morphogenesis of spinach under salt stress. The soluble protein content, chlorophyll content and SOD and POD activity were improved, while the production of MDA and free proline in the leaves of spinach was significantly reduced. It was indicated that when the concentration of Ca Cl2 was 30 mmol/L, the effect of alleviating salt injury of spinach was the best.
