Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical significance of plasma B-type natriuretic peptide(BNP) in early diagnosis of diastolic heart failure(DHF).Methods One hundred and twenty hospitalized patients including 60 cases of DHF with symptoms of clinical congestive heart failure(CHF) and 60 patients with same underlying disease but no clinical symptoms of CHF as control group.Plasma levels of BNP were measured and compared between these two groups. Results Plasma level of BNP in patients with heart failure was significantly higher than that in patients of control group(671±500 pg/ml in heart failure group and 29±13 pg/ml in control group,P0.01).Conclusion Plasma level of BNP is significantly elevated in patients with DHF,hence determination of plasma level of BNP is useful in its early diagnosis.
