Abstract
Objective To determine the plasma BNP level in patients with heart failure, and to study the diagnostic value of plasma BNP in elderly patients with heart failure and cardiac function assessment. Methods The plasma BNP concentration in 77 elderly patients with heart failure and 46 controls were determined and contrasted. Results Plasma BNP levels of heart failure group(662.31±326.18ng/L)was significantly higher than that of the controls(51.26±19.16 ng/L)(P0.01);and with the increase of degree of heart failure, plasma BNP levels gradually increased. Conclusion The assay of plasma BNP concentration is of importance in diagnosis of heart failure, and in the classification of cardiac function and prognosis aswell.
