The Effect of Amiodarone and Irbesartan in Patients with Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation

Objective: To explore the clinical effect of amiodarone and irbesartan on the treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.Methods: 97 patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation who were treated in our hospital were randomly divided into two groups.The control group(n=48) was treated with amiodarone alone,and the observation group(n=49) was treated with amiodarone plus irbesartan.All the patients were followed-up for one years and the primary end point of the study was the first recurrence of auricular fibrillation.Results: After 12 months of treatment,left atrium diameter in control group was significantly larger than that in observation group(P0.05).The maintenance rate of sinus rhythm in observation group was 89.8%,81.6% in the 6th,12th month after treatment,and the rate in control group was 72.9%,62.5%,respectively.They both had significant difference(P0.05).The recurrence rates between the two group(24.5% vs 47.9%) were significantly different(P0.05).Conclusions: The effect of amiodarone plus irbesartan is superior to amiodarone alone in maintenance of sinus rhythm,and they contribute to inhibit the enlargement of left atrium and decrease the recurrence rate of atrial fibrillation.
