Clinical study of Amiodarone and irbesartan on the treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation

Objective To observe the effect of combination of amiodarone and Renin-Angiotensin System(RAS) inhibitors irbesartan maintenance of sinus rhythm after cardioversion in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and its influence on left atrial function.Methods 146 patients with paroxysmal AF were randomly divided into two groups:amiodarone group(n=72) and amiodarone plus Irbesartan group(n=74).The duration of observation was up to 12 months.Results After the treatment and 12 month follow-up,There was no statistically significant difference in the left atrial diameter(LAD) between Group I and Group II in the 1 st and the 3rd month.But there was significant difference(P0.05) in maintenance rate of sinus rhythm and left atrial diameter in the 6th and the 12th month.Conclusion The combination of amiodarone and irbesartan is more effective than amiodarone alone for sinus rhythm maintenance,and can restrain the enlargement of the left atrium.
