Abstract
Four partially N-acetylated chitosans, i.e. 7B, 8B, 9B and 10B with a degree acetylation of 70%, 80%, 90% and 100%, respectively, and the cell wall of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (CW)were used as substrates to test the possible specificity of the chitinase of the rapeseed (Brassica napus) cv. Xinong Changjiao to the substrates. The results showed that the chitinase produced the highest activity to chitisan 7B and lower activity to 8B, 9B, 10B and CW, suggesting that the chitinase has no specificity to the cell wall chitosan of S. sclerotiorum. Another study with 11rapeseed varieties or lines indicated that the activity of the chitinase of different rapeseed genotypes showed a significant negative correlation with their disease scores, suggesting that chitinase may be of great significance in improving the resistance to S. sclerotiorum in rapeseed.
