Abstract
Objective To investigate the credibility of Sysmex XE-2100 hematology analyzer′s abnormal lymphocytes alert, and to confirm the value of microscope. Methods We applied Sysmex XE-2100 hematology analyzer to carry out routine blood test on 284 venous blood samples. Blood smear microscope inspection was carried out to all the samples with lymphocytes alert. 200 leukocytes were counted in a randomly selected portion of the slide under oil light microscopy. Positive standard was determined as the ratio of abnormal lymphocytes more than 5%. All the data were collected and analyzed. Results Ninety-two positive samples of abnormal lymphocyte were reviewed by microscopy. The positive predictive rate was 25.00% (23/92), and the sensitive rate was 60.53% (23/38). 192 negative samples of abnormal lymphocyte were also reviewed by microscopy, of which 15 were found positive by manual re-examination. The negative predictive rate was 92.19% (177/192), and the sensitive rate was 71.95% (177/246). Conclusion Sysmex XE-2100 hematology analyzer does not have a satisfactory performance on lymphocytes abnormal alerting system, resulting in high manual re-examination rate. The function should be revised according to actual situation.
