Discussion on Public Participation in Land Use Planning

Public participation in the planning of land use is a policy for coordinating the interests of all the various aspects in society. Its goal consists in making public take part in decision-making and management of the planning. At first the public participation began in the 1960's in America. In the 1970's the practice was used in China. Now the practice of public participation in the planning of land use in China is in the initial stage. The paper puts forward the next proposals for improving the practice: enhance public participation awareness, improve the mechanism of public participation, use variety ways to attract public to take part in the planning.
