Effects of "Shugan Jianwei Jieyu Decoction"on quality of life and psychologic status in functional dyspepsia

Objective To assess the effectiveness of the Shugan Jianwei Jieyu Decoction in treating functional dyspepsia(FD) and its in effects on patients’ quality of life and psychologic status.Methods This study is a randomized domperidone-controlled trial.Sixty-four FD patients were randomized to receive either Shugan Jianwei Jieyu Decoction(treatment group) or domperidone(control group) for 4 weeks;and 20 healthy people were recruited(normal group).The primary outcome was resolution of patient’s symptoms based on global symptoms assessment,the quality of life assessed by new 10-item short form,hospital anxiety and depression scale by perceived stress scale-10 item.Results Shugan Jianwei Jieyu Decoction could significantly improve anxiety and depression,and relieve abnormal perceived stress after four-week treatment than that of controll group(P0.01,P0.05),while controll group had no effects on the above mentioned(P0.05).Both Shugan Jianwei Jieyu Decoction and controll group had a significant difference in improving quality of life(P0.01,P0.05);but the cure rate and effective rate in quality of life in the treatment group were significantly higher than those in the controll group(P0.05).Conclusion Shugan Jianwei Jieyu Decoction can alleviate anxiety and depression,and improve quality of life in FD patients.
