Abstract

Objective To study the application of bispectral index(BIS) in pediatric anesthesia,in order to promote the procedure and provide basis for safe anesthesia in children. Methods? From January 2011 to March 2011,60 ASA Ⅰor Ⅱ patients including 39 boys and 21 girls aged between 1 to 4 years old scheduled for abdominal surgery were equally randomized to two groups.Patients in group S underwent anesthesia with sevoflurane, remifentanil and vecuronium, while patients in group P received anesthesia with propofol, remifentanil and vecuronium.BIS was kept at 50±5 at surgery.Hemodynamic parameters, the time of analepsia and extubation were recorded at different time points from anesthesia induction till completion of operation. Results Blood pressure and heart rate were significantly decreased during surgery in group P(P0.05).The time of analepsia was significant different between the two groups, and the patients in group S recovered quickly and completely(P0.05).The hemodynamics stability of group S surpassed group P,and the time of analepsia and extubation were shorter.BIS was 97 ± 1 before anesthesia induction and 71 ± 2 at the time of unconsciousness in both two groups. When BIS was equal to 50 ± 5,blood pressure and heart rate were stable in both two groups. Conclusion Bispectral index has a clinical significance as an index in monitoring the depth of sedation in pediatric anesthesia.
