Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of bispectral index monitoring during general anesthesia on hemodynamics, recovery time and post-anesthesia complication in the elderly patients with hypertension. Methods Eighty ASA II-III elderly patients(age≥65 years old) undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy were randomly assigned to control group and BIS group. The general anesthesia was achieved by infusion of remifentanil and propofol in titrated doses. The depth of anesthesia was titrated according to the BIS value for the patients of the BIS group, and it was titrated according to experience of anesthetist in the control group. The blood pressure and heart rate were monitored. The recovery level was evaluated and post-anesthesia complications were recorded. Results In the control group, changes in blood pressure and heart rate were significant(t =-3.26,-3.41,-4.25,P 0.05).The recovery time(18.60±6.08) min in the BIS group was shorter than those of control group(26.22±7.37) min(t=-8.47,P0.05).Conclusions The BIS monitoring during the general anesthesia provides satisfactory hemodynamic stability, minor post-anesthesia complication, and rapid recovery.
