Abstract

Objective To investigate partial splenic embolization(PSE) on the effects of patients with portal hypertensive hypersplenism. Methods In this study, from January 1998 to July 2006,the blood cells and ultrasound and other clinical examination were carried out in 53 patients with hypersplenism,it was analyzed the changes of blood cells count, the internal diameter of portal vein, the perfusion/size of spleen, and etc.before and after PSE.Results After PSE,The obviously decreased splenic perfusion and obviously increased WBC were obtained on the second day,the internal diameter of portal vein will decrease day by day, blood cells count were stabilized beyond 3 months to 6 months, the size of spleen was obviously decreased after 3 monsth, and the heptic function, ascites and other symptomths were all improved. Conclusion The partial splenic embolization was an easy, economy and effective way to treat hypersplenism, the effects was satisfiactory.
