A study on clinical application of phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation combined with trabeculectomy

Abstract
Objective To study the methods and effects of phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation combined with trabeculectomy. Methods 34 cases (47 eyes) of cataract and glaucoma were treated with phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation combined with trabeculectomy.The follow up period was 6～36 months. Results In all of 47 eyes,intraocular pressure were controlled to normal level.11～15 mmHg(1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) in 9 eyes,16～21 mmHg in 28 eyes.Vision improved quickly.Except 4 eyes of glaucoma optic atrophy vision was 0.1～0.2,the other 43 eyes vision was 0.5～1.2.No serious complication existed. Conclusion Phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation combined with trabeculectomy is safe and effective,so it is practical for an extensive clinical application.
