Abstract
Objective: To survey the clinical effect in treatment of pterygium by fresh amnion with autogenous corneal limbus stem cell transplantation. Methods:A total of 64 patients(64 eyes) with pterygium were randomly selected and divided into random group A(pterygium excision with fresh amnion transplantation) and group B(pterygium excision with autogenous corneal limbus stem cell transplantation) so as to observe whether the postoperative corneal healing, neoformative blood vessel of corneal limbus and bulbar conjunctiva have conjunctival pterygium tissue hyperplasia. Results: A follow-up of 3~25 months was made. There were 2 recurrences among 32 cases in group A(6.3%) and no relapses in group B.Conclusions: The purpose of amnion transplantation is in that it can restore the matrix microenvironment of corneal limbus, while corneal limbus stem cell transplantation is in that it can restore the number of corneal limbus stem cell. Both of methods, therefore, can be used. But it is the best operative pattern that corneal limbus stem cell transplantation treat recurrent pterygium because it is autogenous oculofacial issue(transplan-)tation.The operation is safe and easy. And the rate of success is high.
