Abstract

The chlorine dioxide disinfection solution was produced by the reaction between sodium chlorate and hydrochloric acid in chlorine dioxide generator. Filter membrane method was used to observe its efficacy in killing Escherichia coli in water and its influencing factors. Results: Chlorine dioxide disinfection solution produced by the generator contained chlorine dioxide 545.3 mg/L in average. The disinfection solution produced containing chlorine dioxide 0.2 mg/L with a 7 min contact time could reduce E. coli to 0 cfu/100 ml in artificially contaminated water sample and natural water. Temperature and pH value had no significant influence on its germicidal efficacy. While organic substance had certain influence. Conclusion: Chlorine dioxide produced by the generator has good efficacy in killing E. coli in water.
