Abstract

Objective To assess the prevalence of hyperuricemia and its risk factors in Qingdao. Methods 6 000 residents aged over 35 years from six districts of Qingdao were randomly selected and examined.General conditions, life styles, behaviors, and family histories were investigated. And physical check-ups and corresponding lab index were rendered.Data was analysed by SPSS 11.5.Results The prevalence rate was 18.14% for all, higher in men(22.52%)than in women(15.32%)(χ2=40.12,P0.001).The prevalence was 19.93% in urban areas and 16.42% in rural areas(χ2=10.05,P0.01).Only 3.31% of the people with hyperuricemia was aware of the condition. The results of the Logistic regression showed that hyperlipidemia, overweight, alcohol intake, and income were the risk factors of hyperuricemia. Conclusion The prevalence rate of hyperuricemia in Qingdao was high, with a low awareness.Health promotion on lifestyle changes may help to increase the public awareness and reduce the prevalence of hypemricemia.
