Expression and significance of STAT3 and Survivin in cervical cancer

Objective:To investige the expression of STAT3 and Survivin in cervical cancer,and discuss the relationship between their expression and the genesis,development and prognosis of cervical cancer.Methods: The expressrions of STAT3 and Survivin were detected using immunohistochemical SP technique in the tissues of normal cervical epithelium,cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN) and cervical cancer.Meanwile,the gray scale of STAT3 and Survivin expression in cervical cancer was analyzed by automatic image analyzer.Results:The positive expression of STAT3 was detected in 10.00% of normal cervical epithelium and in 30.00% of CIN.Though there was a rising tendency of positive expression rate of STAT3 in these two groups,the difference was not significant(P0.05).However,the positive expression rate in cervical cancer was 73.33%,which was signicantly higher than that in normal cervical epithelium(P0.05).Yet the difference was not significantly important between cervical cancer and CIN(P0.05).The positive expression of Survivin was not detected in normal cervical epithelium,but was detected in 40.00% of CIN and 86.67% of cervical cancer.The difference of positive expression rate of Survivin in normal cervical epithelium and CIN was significant(P0.05),and also was in cervical cancer,normal cervical epithelium(P0.05),cervical cancer,CIN(P0.05).The average values of gray scale of both STAT3 and Survivin were signicantly correlated with clinical stage,differentiation degree and lymph node metastasis of cervical cancer(P0.05).Conclusion:STAT3 and Survivin were related with malignant grade,progression and metastasis of cervical cancer.In addition,the statistically significant correlation of the expression of STAT3 with Survivin indicated that the occurrence and development of cervical cancer might be associated with the activation of STAT3 signal transduction pathways and inhibition of cell apoptosis.
