Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between the changes of serum nitric oxide (NO) and plasma von Willebrand factor(vWF) levels and the pathogenesis of coronary heart diseases(CHD). Methods The serum NO levels were determined by enzymatic assay with nitrate reductase, and the plasma vWF levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)in 38 healthy subjects and 39 patients with CHD. Results The mean serum concentration of NO in patients was 56.3±21.0μmol L, much lower than that of healthy subjects (79.7±21.1μmolL)(t=4.41,P0.001). The plasma vWF levels were significantly higher in patients than those in controls.(181±21)vs(142±24)%, t=7.34,P0.001. Conclusion The decreased NO and increased vWF levels in CHD patients might be involved in the pathogenesis of arteriosclerotic heart disease.
