Breeding and application of Boyou 258——One new hybrid rice combination with high yield and good quality

Boyou 258,a new photosensitive indica hybrid rice combination from the cross of cytoplasm male sterile Bo A and good-quality restorer line Ce 258,was bred by Development Center for Help Farming,Guangxi University in 1998.It is 110 cm in height,vigorous in growth,and stronger culm,good color in maturity stage,strong stress resistance.Its whole growth period is 123 day.And in the Guangxi regional varietes comparative tests for indica late rice hybrid combination in 2000～2001,the yield of Boyou 258 was 3.0% and 3.2% higher than Boyou Gui 99.It was tested and approved by Guangxi Crops Variety Approval Committee in 2003 Feb.Since characteristics of high and stable yield which is 7 500 to 9 750 kg/hm2,good grain quality,strong resistance to disease,Boyou 258 is a main cultivar in Guangxi and its total applicated area had amounted to 29.26×104 hm2 by now.
