A double-blind comparative observation of antipsychotics combined with paroxetine in treatment chronic schizophrenia

Objective:To explore the efficacy of antipsychotics combined with paroxetine in the treatment of chronic schizophrenia with negative symptoms.Method:Sixty-eight cases of chronic schizophrenia mainly with negative symptoms were randomly divided into combined groups(treated with antipsychotics and paroxetine)and control group(treated with placebo).The course of treatment was twelve weeks,The efficiency and side effects were evaluated by positive and negative symptoms scale(PANSS)and treatment emergent symptoms scale(TESS)before and after treatments for 4、8、12 weeks.Results:After 8 weeks treatments,the total scores and negative symptoms scores of PANSS significantly decreased in the combined group than before treatments.Conclusion:Antipsychotics combined with paroxetine should improve the negative symptoms of chroric schizophrenia.Two groups have no significant differences in side effects.
