Abstract
Objective To estimate the effect of health education on knowledge,attitude and practice(KAP) about hypertension among rural residents. Methods Questionnaire survey and laboratory test were used in a baseline study and an evaluation survey three months after the intervention.The intervention included distributing free low-sodium and spoon monthly,training to make low-salt diet in the family,and distribution of leaflets about salt and hypertension. Results After the intervention,there were significant increases in health awareness,attitude toward low-salt diet,and hypertension-related knowledge(P0.05).Compared with the baseline,the subjects showed significantly increased rates of low use and low fat diet(P0.05). Conclusion The low-salt health education can significantly improve the relevant knowledge of hypertension in rural population and promote low and low fat dietary pattern among rural residents.
