Analysis of therapeutic effect of ultrasonic subgingival scaling synchro-nized with drug washing in treatment of periodontitis

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of ultrasonic subgingival scaling synchronized with drug washing in the treatment of periodontitis and to provide reference for the clinical implementation of scientific and effective treatment measures. Methods Twenty-four patients (48 teeth) with chronic periodontitis admitted to our hospital from March to September 2012 were assigned to the study group and the control group using the random number table method, with 12 patients (24 teeth) in each group. The study group received ultrasonic subgingival scaling syn-chronized with 3% hydrogen peroxide washing treatment and the control group received ultrasonic subgingival scaling first, followed by 3% hydrogen peroxide washing with traditional washing device. Before and 14th day after treatment, the plaque indices, gingival bleeding indices, probing depth and attachment loss of the two groups were recorded and compared. Results The two groups had no statistically significant differences in all the pre-treatment periodontal indices (P0.05) and they were comparable. At the end of the 14th day after treatment, the plaque index, gingival bleeding index, probing depth and attachment loss of the study group were (0.93±0.28) degree, (1.18±0.37) degree, (3.98± 1.10) mm and (2.75±0.88) mm respectively and those of the control group were (1.64 ±0.51) degree, (2.16±0.69) degree (5.51±0.92) mm and (3.13±0.73) mm respectively, with significant differences between the two groups ( P0.05). Conclusion For patients with chronic periodontitis, ultrasonic subgingival scaling synchronized with drug washing is better than traditional drug washing treatment in promoting prognosis, improving periodontal inflammation and achieving satisfactory clinical efficacy, thereby worth further promotion.
