Abstract

Objective To observe the expression and significance of interleukin 23( IL-23) in patients with acute cerebral infarction. Methods 42 patients with acute cerebral infarction admitted to our hospital from January 2011 to August 2012 were selected as acute cerebral infarction group, and they were divided into small cerebral infarction subgroup, medium cerebral infarction subgroup and large cerebral infarction subgroup; 57 healthy cases were selected as control group at the same time. The levels of IL-23 and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein( hs-CRP) were detected, while carotid ultrasound was used to exam the carotid intima-media thickness( IMT). Results The levels serum IL-23 and hs-CRP of acute cerebral infarction group were higher than those of control group( P 0. 05). Subgroup analysis showed, the levels serum IL-23 in large cerebral infarction subgroups was higher than those of small and medium cerebral infarction subgroups( P 0. 05). The level of serum IL-23 was positively correlated with and carotid IMT( r = 0. 71,P 0. 05). Conclusion The level of serum IL-23 rises significantly in patients with acute cerebral infarction, which is positively correlated with carotid IMT.
