Abstract

Objective To evaluate the value of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation(NIPPV)in the treatment of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD)accompanied with respiratory failure. Methods 64 patients with AECOPD were randomly divided into ventilation group(n=32)and control group(n=32),which received conventional medical therapy plus NIPPV and conventional medical therapy only, respectively. The blood gas analysis, breath rate, heart rate and consciousness-clear rate of patients before and after the treatment were compared between the two groups. Results The blood gas analysis, breath rate, heart rate and consciousness-clear rate improved more significantly in the ventilation group than those in the control group.(P0.05).Conclusion NIPPV has positive effect on AECOPD accompanied with respiratory failure.
