Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between bone mineral density(BMD)and clinical related factors in elderly with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods Bone mineral density in lumbar spine and hip in 65 elderly with type 2 diabetes mellitus and 80 controls were measured using Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DXA).Sixty-five patients underwent the following test:fasting blood glucose(FBG),postprandial blood glucose(PBG),fructosamine(FA),hemoglobin Alc(HbAlc),fasting serum C-peptide,postprandial serum C-peptide,cholesterin(chol),triglyceride(TG).Results Bone mineral density of 65 patients were lower than that of controls, but only in lumbar spine the reduction was statistically significant.Thirty patients(45%)in diabetes mellitus group had osteoporosis(OP).DM progress in OP group and non-OP group was significantly different (P0.05).Conclusions Type 2 diabetes mellitus might reduce BMD which is significally correlated with DM'S course.
