Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To explore the expression of survivin in chronic cervicitis, squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix and the relationships with the tumor pathological types, the tumor size and lymph node status.METHODS: The expression of survivin was detected for 10 specimens of chronic cervicitis, 30 specimens of squamous cell carcinomas and 30 specimens of adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix by immunohistochemis-try.RESULTS: Survivin expression was observed in only one case of the chronic cervicitis (1/10), the positive rate was 56.7%(17/30) in squamous cell carcinoma and 80% (24/30) in adenocarcinoma, the difference was statistically significant (P0.01).The expression was related to lymph node metastasis (P0.01) and pathological types (P0.05), but there was no relationship with age, tumor size, pathological grade, clinical stage (P0.05).The strong nuclear positve had the relataionship with the clinicopathological types, tumor size (P0.05) and lymph node metastasis (P0.01). CONCLUSION: The expression of survivin has correlation with cervical carcinoma, especially for adenocarcinoma. Its strong expression in the cell nuclear could predict prognosis.
