Reflection on the Foreign Policy of the Qing Government on the Eve of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895

The general characteristic of the foreign policy of the Qing government on the eve of Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 shows that the Qing government was short of a clear judgment of the power of the two countries,and was over indulged in the traditional value of peace and harmony and lake of active countermeasure to deal with the changed situation.The Qing government also had a blind faith in international mediation,and had not enough courage and wisdom to resist the aggression for national benefit.This lesson is still significant today and worth our serious reflection.
