Abstract
The Opium War was a war against aggression in China's modern history,it served as the beginning of modern Chinese history,and re- opened the door for China to understand the world. The failure of the Opium War is of certain inevitability,and the political conditions of prevailing corruption in Qing Dynasty has great link to it. The paper closely analyzes the political situation of Qing Dynasty during the Opium War from the aspects of the Qing Dynasty's imperial autocracy,the implementation of theclosed doorforeign policy for maintaining the country dignity,the management system with officials' corruption,and the policy of ethnic discrimination.
