Abstract

Objective to investigate the efficacy and safety of amlodipine and nifedipine in treating old patients with essential hypertension. Methods 80 cases were randomly assigned into two groups, group A and group B.40 old patients in group A received amlodipine 5~10 mg,one time a day for four weeks.40 old patients in group B received nifedipine 10~20 mg,three times a day for four weeks.Patients of both groups were observed the condition of blood pressure lowering and unhealthy reaction at the same time. Results The total effective rate of amlodipine lowering blood pressure was 82.5%.the total effective rate of nifedipine lowering blood pressure was 70%.Conclusion Amlodipine is higher in the total effective rate, and unhealthy reaction of amlodipine is less.Amlodipine is a safer and taken easy medicine to treat old patients with essential hypertension.
