TCM treatment on chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting

According to traditional Chinese medicine,the pathogenesis of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting caused by cisplatin is the weakness in the spleen and stomach caused by drug toxin as spleen do not transport and digest wet causing endogenous dampness and stomach qi upward reverse causing the disorder of the stomach qi,which is syndrome of deficiency ben and excessive biao.In clinic,its syndrome could be divided into three kinds:excess syndrome,deficiency syndrome and intermingled deficiency and excess syndrome.Syndrome of excess is usually divided into retention of phlegmatic dampness,stagnation of liver Qi,and spleen stomach damp heat,etc and syndrome of excess usually spleen deficiency,stomach yin deficiency,and deficiency of spleen qi and stomach qi,etc.Therefore,the commonly used treatment methods are reducing phlegm,tonifying qi,strengthening spleen,calming the adverse-rising energy,warming the spleen and stomach or removing stasis,etc,To reduce phlegm,formula like small pinelliae decoction is used,which includes small pinelliae poria together with fuling decoction,Wendantang decoction,poria cassia combo decoction.To tonify qi,prescriptions like Xiangsha decoction of six noble drugs,Chaishao decoction of six noble drugs,decoction of four mild drugs and Shenlingbaizhu powder are used.To calm the adverse-rising energy,XuanfuDaizhe decoction is used.In clinic treatment,the therapy combining traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine,which is a complement to each other,could improve the antiemetic effect,reduce adverse reaction and better the life quality of patients,hence enhance patients' chemotherapy compliance.
