Clinical Treatment Progress of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Chemotherapy-induced Nausea and Vomiting

Nausea and vomiting are the most common symptoms of side effect encountered in chemotherapy.In light of traditional Chinese medicine theory,the basic pathogenesis of the chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting(CINV) is considered to be splenic asthenia and dampness encumbrance,qi asthenia and phlegm stagnation and adverse rising of gastric qi.Treatments of invigorating spleen to remove phlegm and benefit qi or those of regulating stomach to subdue the adverse flow of qi are used frequently.Common clinical prescriptions include Xiaobanxia decoction,Xiaobanxia-Fuling decoction,Xiangsha Liujunzi decoction,Shenling Baizhu powder and Xuanfu Daizhe decoction.Those decoctions to be used alone or in combination with antiemetic drugs can increase the antiemetic effect,decrease the side effects of antiemetic drugs and improve the quality of life of cancer patients.
