THE EFFECT OF VENLAFAXINE COMBINING WITH QUETIAPINE IN THE TREATMENT OF REFRACTORY DEPRESSION

Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of venlafaxine combined with quetiapine in the treatment of refractory depression.Methods A total of 61 patients were randomized to study group,treated with venlafaxine combined with quetiapine,and control group,treated with venlafaxine.The course was for eight weeks.The efficacy and side effects were evaluated using Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD) after 1,2,4,and 8 weeks after therapy.Results Scores of HAMD in the two groups decreased significantly after completion of the treatment(t=21.85,17.86;P0.05).The score of HAMD in study group was significantly lower than that in control group at the end of weeks 2,4 and 8(t=2.25-3.05,P0.05).No significant side effects were noted in the two groups.Conclusion The efficacy of cotherapy with venlafaxine and quetiapine for refractory depression is much better than with venlafaxine alone.
