An analysis of accidental death of children under 5 years old in Conghua city

Objective To study actualities and characteristics of accidental death of children under 5 years old.Methods The data of accidental death of children under 5 years old in Conghua city,Guangdong province from 2003~2007 were analyzed retrospectively.Results The average rate of accidental death of children under 5 years old was 197.41/100 000,of which,the average rate of accidental death of infants was 63.32/100 000,and that of children aged 1~4 years old was 134.09/100 000.Accidental death was the fifth cause of infants and the first cause of children aged 1~4 years old respectively in category of death causes.In accidental death,accidental asphyxia was the first death cause of infants,and drowning is the first death cause of children aged 1~4 years old.Conclusion The integrated measures should be taken to reduce accidental deaths and lower the mortality rate of children under 5 years old.
