Analysis of Accidental Death in Children under 5 years Old in Chongming County in Shanghai in 1991-2005

Objective To study actualities and characteristics of accidental death in children under 5 years old and to discuss the preventive measures. Methods To analysis accidental death in children under 5 years old. Results The accidental death rate in children under 5 years old decreased in fi fteen years, The accidental death of children under the age of fi ve children is the second cause of death and the death of children aged 1~4 is the fi rst cause of death; The main causes ofi nfants accidental death was accidental asphyxia, and drowning and traffi c accidental were the main cause for 1~4 years old children's accidental death; the accidental death rate has no gender differences in 0-year-old group, but in 1~4-year-old group the boy is higher than the girl; children's accidental death-prone season in the spring and summer, more than made over the weekend; the accidental death of the children died of multiple locations at home or go to hospital On the way, only 25.34% received treatment. Conclusion Up to the accidental death of a healthy child against several major health problems. Attention to the accidental death of children, and step up publicity to raise awareness of prevention, minimizing children under fi ve mortality rate of accidents.
