A Survey of Blackflies (Diptera: Simuliidae) in Hunan, China

Abstract
Objective: To report the fauna and geographical distribution of blackflies in Hunan province. Methods: Three different representative areas were selected and the immature stages of these blackflies there were collected and reared solitarily through pupae and adults. Slide specimens of parts of different stages were made as the base of identification. Results: 17 species including 5 new ones were recorded. The analysis showed that they are characteristic of Oriental Region. Conclusions: A list has been set up for the blackflies known in Hunan province so far, and relative arguments are given.
