Abstract

Objective: To study the expression of Survivin in bladder transitional cell carcinoma (BTCC) and the relationship with pathological stage of BTCC and Fas/FasL system. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of Survivin, Fas and Fasl in BTCC (n = 64), bladder benign lesions (n = 15) and normal bladder mucosa (n = 12). Results: The positive expression of survivin in BTCC(93.8%) was higher than bladder benign lesions(66.7%) and normal bladder mucosa had no expression, the difference was statistical significance (P 0.01). The expression level of survivin was strongly relatated with pathological grade. The Fas expression rate among BTCC, bladder benign lesions and normal bladder mucosa was 50%, 80% and 100% respectively.Correspondingly, the FasL expression level among BTCC, bladder benign lesions and normal bladder mucosa was 90.6%,60% and 16.7%.The expression of Survivin in the BTCC was up regulated and had a tight relationship with the expression of Fas/FasL. Conclusion: The study suggest that survivin is relatated with the malignancy of BTCC and cooperating with Fas/FasL to promote the initiation and progression of BTCC.
