Survivin expression in bladder transitional cell carcinoma

Abstract
Objective To explore the significance of Survivin expression in bladder transitional cell carcinoma(BTCC).Methods Immunohistochemical(IHC) one-step method and RT-PCR method were used to determine the expression of Survivin and Survivin mRNA in BTCC(n=40) and normal bladder mucosa(n=12);Survivin was investigated using the Western blot analysis in urine specimens or exfoliated urine cells(EUC) in BTCC(n=40) and non-BTCC(n=32).Results IHC indicated that expression level of Survivin in BTCC was 95.0%(P0.01),RT-PCR indicated that expression level of Survivin in BTCC was 100.0%(P0.01),and Western blot indicated that expression level of Survivin in BTCC was 95.0%(P0.01).Survivin was not expressed in normal bladder mucosa.Expression level of Survivin was strongly correlated with pathological grade and clinical stage(P0.01).Conclusion Survivin highly expresses in BTCC,suggesting that Survivin should be a good diagnostic and prognostic index of BTCC.
