Abstract
Objective:To investigate the changes of netric oxide (NO)and glucose in cord blood in newborns with asphyxia. Methods:The levels of NO and glucose in cord blood were determined in 30 newborns with asphyxia, and 32 healthy neonates. Results:The levels of NO_2-and glucose in cord blood were (27.28±9.52) μmol/L and (3.65±0.79) mmol/L respectively in the control group,and(43.74±13.20)μmol/L and (5.65±1.20) mmol/L in the asphyxia group. The levels of NO_2-and glucose levels in cord blood in the newborns with asphyxia were much higher than those in the normal controls. The levels of NO_2-and glucose levels in cord blood in the newborns with severe asphuxia (60.17±9.93)μmol/L and(7.25±0.54) mmol/L were found to be significantly higher than those seen in the light asphyxia group(36.72±6.33) μmol/L and (4.93±0.53) mmol/L,P0.01.The NO levels were significantly related to the glucose levels. Moreover, the cord blood NO level was related closely to development of hypoxia-ischmic encephalopathy. Conclusion:The determinations of NO and glucose in cord blood in newborns with asphyxia have important clinical significance.
