Abstract

Objective: To investigate the effects of trimetazidine on cardiac fibrosis in rats with experimental diabetic cardiomyopathy(DC).Methods: DC was induced in male Sprague-Dawley rats by STZ intraperitoneally injection.Rats randomly received saline(n=10) or trimetazidine(7.5 mg per kg weight per day,n=10) for 8 weeks by gavage.Another 10 healthy rats were served as controls.Myocardial hydroxyproline content as well as interstitial collagen volume fraction(ICVF) were determined. Results: Myocardial hydroxyproline and ICVF were more significantly reduced in trimetazidine treated DC rats as compared to saline treated DC rats(all P0.05).Conclusion: Trimetazidine could decrease the concentration of myocardial hydroxyproline and ICVF in diabetic cardiomyopathy rats.
