Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of high frequency ultrasound in the diagnosis of epidermoid cyst. Methods The ultrasound images were retrospectively analyzed in the 63 patients with epidermoid cyst confirmed by surgery and pathological test. Results A total of 66 lesions were detected in 63 patients and the features of images could be classified into 3 types including 18 cases of homogeneous echo pattern,40 cases of inhomogeneous echo pattern,8 cases of mixed echo pattern, respectively.Blood flow signal could not be detected within all types of lesions, but markedly increased punctiform and strip blood flow signals could be detected around the lesions in 4 cases of mixed echo pattern. Conclusion High frequency ultrasound is of important value in the diagnosis of epidermoid cyst.
