Abstract
Objective To explore the value on high-frequency ultrasound in diagnosis of superficial epidermal cyst. Methods Characteristics of ultrasonographic images of 120 patients with pathologically proved superficial epidermoid cysts were analyzed retrospectively. Results All the lesions were single space in ultrasound.Fifty-eight cases were diagnosis rightly,43 were misdiagnosed as solid masses,12 as mixture masses,7 were unable to distinguish between solid and cystic.Distinct margin was found in 109 cases.Hypo to moderate homogenous echoic masses were detected in 49 cases, uneven internal echo in 12 cases and hypoechoic conduit-like structure epidermoid cyst in 59 cases. After compression,92 lesions were deformable, but echo in masses were lack of flow.No blood signal was detected with color Doppler in all masses. Conclusion Based on the characteristics of ultrasonographic images.Ultrasound is helpful to the diagnosis of epidermoid cysts.
