Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the emergency drug use in our hospital so as to improve rational drug use.METHODS: A total of 2 075 emergency prescriptions in our hospital from Jan.to Mar.in 2008 were randomly selected and classified statistically using Excel software.RESULTS: 285 prescriptions(13.73%) were found to be to irrational,which manifested as excessive and repeated drug use,irrational drug combination,improper usage and non-indicated drug use.CONCLUSION: Some effective measures such as implementing prescription comments,developing training on clinical rational drug use and promoting the communication between pharmacists and physicians etc should be taken as soon as possible to tackle the problem of irrational drug use.
