Expression and clinical significance of Livin and Caspase-9 in gastric carcinoma tissue

Objective To study the expression of Livin and Caspase-9 in human gastric carcinoma tissue and explore the relationship between their expressions and clinical pathology parameters and correlation between Livin and Caspase-9 expression.Methods The expressions of Livin and Caspase-9 were detected by immunohistochemical technique(streptavidin-peroxidase) in 78 gastric carcinoma tissues and 30 gastric ulcers.Results The positive expression rate of Livin in gastric carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than that of gastric ulcers,and the expression of Caspase-9 was lower than that of gastric ulcers(P 0.01).The expression of Livin was negatively correlated with the expression of Caspase-9(P 0.01,r =-0.304).The expression of Livin and Caspase-9 was closely correlated with tumor depth of gastric cancer,lymph nods metastasis,clinical stages and histological differentiation grade,but not with sex,age and tumor size(P 0.05).Conclusions Livin and Caspase-9 are associated with occurrence and development of gastric cancer,and the expression of the above two are negatively correlated.Livin and Caspase-9 may be considered as reliable markers for clinical diagnosis,therapy efficacy and the prognosis of gastric carcinoma.
