Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of carvedilol in treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF). Meth-ods:90 patients with CHF were randomly divided into carvedilol group (45cases) and control group (45cases). Two groups were treated with the routine medicine, including digitalis, diuretics,ACEI and niteates.Carvedilol was added to carvedilol group. Carvedilol began from 5 mg per day and was gradually increased to 10-20 mg per day if they were tolerated. The treatment was lasted for 24 weeks. The heart function was evaluated once a week, and LVEF,LVEDD and LVESD were evaluated by echocardiography before and after treatment. Symptoms and signs were recorded. Results:After treatment, the heart function and LVEF significantly increased. LVEDD,LVESD in carvedilol group were reduced significantly. There was significantly difference between the two groups. Conclusion:Carvedilol is effective and safe in treating mild and moderate chronic congestive heart failure, which can improve the remodeling of left ventricle.
