Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of carvedilol in treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF).Methods:A total of 72 patients with CHF were randomly divided into carvedilol group (36cases) and control group (36cases).Two groups were treated with the routine medicine, including digitalis, diuretics,ACEI and nitrates.Carvedilol was added to carvedilol group.Carvedilol began from 5mg per day and was gradually increased to 10~20mg per day if they were tolerated. The treatment was lasted for 20 weeks. The heart function was evaluated and heart rates, and blood pressure were measured once a week. The LVEF、LVEDD and LVESD were evaluated by echocardiography before and after the treatment. Results:After treatment, the LVEF significantly increased(P0.001).However,the heart function grade,LVEDD,LVESD,blood pressure and heart rates decreased(P0.01) in carvedilol group. The above indexes of carvedilol group improved more than those of control group(P0.05 all). Conclusion:Carvedilol is effective and safe in treating chronic congestive heart failure, which can improve obviously the remodeling of left ventricle.
