Effect of carvedilol on cardiac function in patients with chronic heart failure

Abstract

OBJECTIVE To observe the curative effect of carvedilol on cardiac function in patients with chronic heart failure.METHODS 64 patients with chronic heart failure(CHF)were divided randomly into two groups,one was regular treatment group treated with diuretic,ACE inhibitor and digitoxin,another was carvedilol treatment group treated with carvedilol on the basis of above regular treatment.All the patients were followed up for six months and the changes of the clinical symptoms,heart rate,blood pressure,heart function and left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)were observed.RESULTS After carvediolol treatment,each index of the carvedilol treatment group was obviously improved and the LVEF was higher than regular treatment group(P0.01).CONCLUSION Carvedilol can be the effective drug used in clinic for treating chronic heart failure.
