The expression of apoptosis associated gene Survivin in gastric cancer tissues and its clinical meaning

Abstract
Objective To investigate the function of Survivin in tumorigenesis of gastric cancer and the relation of Survivin with clinic parameters of gastric cancer patient.Methods Western blotting for Survivin expression was conducted on 30 gastric cancer tissues, 30 gastric adjacent normal tissues and 10 gastric normal tissues.Results Survivin was expressed in 22 of 30 (73.3%) gastric cancer tissues. In contract, 30 gastric adjacent normal tissues and 10 gastric normal tissues did not express Survivin. Overexpression of Survivin was associated with the clinical stage and peritoneal and/or distant metastasis of gastric cancer while sex, age of patients and near lymph node metastasis of gastric cancer.Conclusion Survivin played an important role in tumorigenesis of gastric cancer and was an important predictive parameter in gastric cancer patients.
