Survivin gene expression in gastric carcinoma

Abstract

Objective To detect the expression of a novel inhibitor gene of apoptosis,survivin in gastric carcinoma tissues and in gastric carcinoma cell line MGC-803.Methods In 93 gastric carci-noma tissues and 20 no-neoplastic gastric tissues,the expression of survivin gene was examined by us-ing streptavidin-biotin peroxidase(SP) method.Results In contrast to no expression of survivin in no-neoplastic gastric mucosa tissues,survivin was expressed in 66 of 93(71%) cases of gastric cancer samples,and overexpression of survivin in gastric carcinoma cell line MGC-803 was also presented.Survivin gene expression was related to the differentiation,lymph node metastase and the TNM stage of gastric carcinoma.Conclusions The specifically up-regulation of survivin gene in gastric cancer indi-cates that survivin may play an important role in the process of carcinogenesis.
