Analysis of status of injury death in Pizhou City from 2003 to 2005

Objective To explore the distribution characteristics and regularity of accidental death in Pizhou City,Jiangsu Province,so as to provide the evidence for making preventive strategy.Methods The data of retrospective analysis of the death cause were collected during the period of 2003 to 2005,and the years of potential life lost(YPLL) and the rate of YPLL were calculated by the software of Excel 2003.Results The average mortality rate of inhabitants from 2003 to 2005 was 6.60 per 1 000,in which the average mortality rate of injuries was 66.8 per 100 000,ranking the fourth of the causes of death.The rate of YPLL of injuries was 14.48 per 1 000,and the influence of YPLL was the greatest,ranking the first.The leading five causes of injury death were vehicle accident,suicide,drowning,accidental poisoning and accidental falling,accounted for 88.18 percent of total population of death due to injury.Conclusions The main causes of death due to injury were vehicle accident,suicide,drowning,ranking the top three causes of YPLL of injury in order,whose contributions to early death do great harm to the people.To strengthen the measurements to prevent and control the three injuries is very significant to lower the mortality in the city.
