Abstract

Dibutyl adipate was synthesized from adipic acid and n-capryl alcohol with ferric and potassium sulfate as catalyst. The factors influencing the esterification were studied. The result indicated that the catalyst had an excellent catalytic activity to the esterification reaction. The optimized conditions are: n( adipic acid) =0. 05mol,n( n-capryl alcohol) : n( adipic acid) = 2. 2∶ 1( the molar ration),the amount of catalyst = 1. 1 g,the catalyst for the reaction temperature 85-100 ℃,10 mL of hexane and the reaction time 1. 5 hour. The efficiency of this esterification reaction is 92. 2%.
